Is VirPed done for, too?

An issue that has been bothering me lately.
A person might say “I'm attracted to children, but I am part of a group that believes sex between adults and children is wrong. I will never harm a child. I would just like to be respected as a human being.” But if someone within the group breaks these values, opponents will shine a light on that and everyone will think we are all just liars. Their view of all of us is forever scarred by these people.

I wonder if VirPed's tactic will end up furthering our goals, or it will meet the same fate as other groups.
Unlike VP, groups like NAMBLA and MARTIJN and the Dutch Pedophile Workgroup held the radical idea that intergenerational sex was not fundamentally a bad thing. There seems to be the notion that those groups made no progress bc of their radical views. But some of those groups did in fact make some progress, that received reactionary backlash. There was a lot of progress in 70's Netherlands, and then there was strong backlash in the 80s and 90s.
So I am starting to think that it doesn't matter if a group thinks intergen sex is wrong or right or neutral or whatever.
One factor that brought these groups down, and what may also happen to VP, is that there are bound to be “bad apples” in the bunch.
Indeed, no one is an angel, but if you're a pedophile, you had better have a clean track record or you're done for. No one will ever take you seriously again.
If there are people in the group that get in trouble for criminal behavior, you can bet our enemies will shine a light on that. They will say, we are all like that. We are “putting on an act to look civil”, but those bad people who did crimes – this is our true nature.
“Look at these people in your community who did bad things. This is your community, people I hate.”
So how can future groups defend against this? Surely this has been done to all sorts of groups fighting for their rights, yet they have addressed it successfully in a way that we haven't.
What will stop a future organization from meeting the same fate as NAMBLA or MARTIJN, for example?
Do you think this is an issue that future groups need to worry about?
