Yes, but I have no interest in an atheist fundamentalism that is no better than any other form of fundamentalism. I merely wish to commend and defend a naturalism that has been traduced by transcendentalists as somehow amoral. I wish to show that naturalism is both intellectually attractive and a sound basis for a socially and globally conscious morality. Actually, nearly all my acquaintances are Catholics, and they certainly seem no worse than anyone else. Pope Francis was in every way excellent, and certainly a champion of the values of liberty, mercy and kindness, and one can only hope that Pope Leo will build on his work (he certainly chose a most promising name - given the significance of the previous Leo). ![]() |
