The Palestinian minister for foreign affairs ensured European leaders that Hamas will have no role in Gaze, once peace is established. They will give up all weapons and basically disappear. And European politicians were listening to her and were happy. How naive can European politicians be?

How much influence had the Palestinian government regarding the release of the hostages?

Just as IDF left Gaza, Hamas started "organizing" the distribution of aid, meaning confiscating deliveries and selling them to the needy. Today's news have that Hamas shot several Palestinians in Gaza.
