Ah, so I guess you are just seizing on this tangent because you have no response to anything else. That's pretty lame, but it's ok, we can talk about this. That is actually not how the argument went. You are subtly but significantly misrepresenting my argument. Here's how it actually went: Me: "If you have an armed mob breaking into their houses trying to kill them when you ask them questions, then yes, it is remarkably similar." You: "Firstly, theres no evidence they were trying to kill anyone. They didnt have weapons (how were they an armed mob?), they were wandering about inside and interacting with security. The only person that died that day was one of the 'mob'" In response to your first point, I asked you what you thought would happen if Pence came out when the crowd was asking for him to come out, while they were chanting "Hang Mike Pence! Hang Mike Pence" and had a noose and gallows set up outside, since that sounds pretty clearly like they are trying to kill someone (a question you dodged, by the way). In response to your second, I explained that yes, the mob did have weapons, and gave you a source saying as much. You ignored this as well. In response to your third ("they were wandering about inside and interacting with security"), I pointed out that what they were actually doing was attacking security and causing millions of dollars in property damage by destroying stuff. I also asked you if you knew that the rioters broke into the building, since that fact makes your representation even more disingenuous. You had no response to this either. Your claim wasn't just "theres no evidence they were trying to kill anyone. The only person that died that day was one of the 'mob'"; rather, you had more false and misleading stuff in the middle. The meat of my response to what you wrote is laid out above. I didn't just say "but actually 5 people died!!" and present that as a rebuttal to everything you said. I went through what you said point-by-point and called out all the false and misleading stuff you said, which included your statement that only one person died. This point wasn't central to my argument, and the point I was getting at by saying it wasn't "the mob is so scary and evil, they murdered 5 people!!!" like you seem to be saying, it was just that you don't know the basic facts of what happened on Jan 6th. Your whole argument is that there was a dangerous violent mob, bent on murder. Close. My argument is that there was a dangerous violent mob, bent on getting the election results overturned. This was their, and importantly, Trump's, main goal. That said, they did seem pretty bent on hanging Mike Pence. I'll re-ask my question from earlier that you dodged: when the crowd was chanting "Hang Mike Pence! Hang Mike Pence!" and demanding Pence be brought out while they had a noose set up outside, what do you think would've happened if Pence came out? BLM rioters did more damage and killed more people. Wow. You just DESTROYED the magical voice in your head that was arguing that BLM rioters did less damage and killed less people than the mob on Jan 6th did. Amazing. Now that you did, though, do you want to address anything I actually said, or are we just bringing up random unrelated stuff at this point? I have not made up any interpretation. I just do not accept yours. Yes, you have. Trump didn't intend what happened, he didn't incite the riot, the rioters were unarmed, they were wandering about inside the Capitol and interacting with the police there. As I've explained, parts of this explanation are incredibly misleading, and the rest are outright false. Are you going to keep harping on this one insignificant detail? Is your argument really so weak that you can't address anything else I said? |
