Trump announces next POTUS

I mean he himself has already BEEN POTUS and while he will almost certainly at this point be POTUS again, I'm not sure one should call him the NEXT POTUS. With all the attention on the current dotard occupying, in a manner of speaking, the White House, and the increasingly slim possibility that he survives until 2029 even if he WERE re-elected (it would take a miracle now for the latter to occur), it bears remembering that the Donald is also not exactly youthful. His VP may well succeed him without the necessity of running for office -- and even if he DOES have to run, at this point I would take bets on his being president one way or another on Jan. 21. 2029. So what are we to make of J.D. Vance? Well, aside from the fact that there isn't an American BL out there who wouldn't pick him in a moment over Kamela Harris, what will life be like for us under the Vance presidency? Which may well last until 2037? Probably will.... He is very intelligent, and, uh, well educated if you call a degree form the top law school in the country an education. He also has a sure grip on the American political calculus and knows very well that "deplorables" may not necessarily call the shots, but you diss them at your peril. He clawed his way out of their world, but he hasn't forgotten where he came from. Yeah, his nose glistens with a kind of greasy brown slime at what he had to do to suck up to the Donald, but anyone who climbs out of the lower orders to make it to within touching distance of the pinnacle of power has to, well, make some compromises -- including moral comoromises. (Read Robert Caro's 4 volume bio of Lyndon Johnson if you disagree with that. Or recall Bill Clinton sending a man without any brain left to the electric chair.) He's not going to invite MU folks onto the platform with him and if he finds it politically helpful, he'd probably put them -- and indeed all of us -- in prison. But I think he would almost certainly agree that boys need men in their lives. I doubt that anyone in the cabal of women who run the country from behind the scenes these days (Harris; Samantha Powers, etc ) who sign on to that. So maybe all isn't dark. SR
