Prohibition was not misguided and was a public policy success in all relevant measures. Domestic abuse decreased, public health improved, drinking habits changed, and families had more disposable income. All of the arguments that I've ever heard against it are obviously wrong, like "it increased organized crime", as if that wasn't the result of immigration and urbanization. Like every other topic, you just repeat American banalities, without realizing the American "left" is just another aspect of American imperialism. Pro-drug libertinism is objectively bad, which is why socialist countries have been against alcohol and recreational drugs. Individual freedom shouldn't be at the expense of society and recreational drugs (especially alcohol) are extremely socially harmful in many ways. |
