Please show me where I claimed that the translation carried more weight. I was pretty explicitly just using the translation given in the English version as a shorthand, to not need to translate multiple paragraphs myself. And indeed, as I explained, it is a technicality, preferring readability and intelligibility over authenticity is itself a valid approach to translation, smoothing over cultural differences. The word "man" in that instance was not central to the point being made though, nor does it counter the other quotes which are explicit about Timarchus no longer being a boy, or your own lack of quotes showing he was described as a boy in a way that goes against my quotes. It seems your only response to contrary evidence is to get angrier and more inflammatory, nitpick over translation choices, and ignore evidence that you can't do the aforementioned to. Or, if none of the above, simply try to pretend you won the discussion and rage quit in the process, as you already seemingly tried to to before. If you cannot cite evidence, counter my arguments, or keep enough of a level head to not debase to ad hominem, you seem to have less intellectual merit than I had afforded you. Good riddance, if you are indeed gone for good this time. |
