ok, lets forget about whether its "coming out" or not.

the fact is, in general, telling anyone that you have sexual attraction to children is a bad idea. I have never heard of an example that worked out well. And very often it turns out very badly.

It might be slightly different for teenagers talking directly to their parents, but they would have to be sure of their parents and their reaction. We know nothing about this particular case, and so advising that its probably a bad idea is not at all cultish or out of the ordinary. It is a rational position to take.

there was someone on this board who told his parents about his sexual attraction to children, and ended up in a psychiatric hospital.

Once the information is out, it is out of your control who learns of it. And it can be very damaging to ones life for other people to know.

As I have suggested, how about you try it first? Let us know how it goes.
