I was gonna ask what happened 140 years ago, but I see the answer is in your article: Industrial revolution and the WCTU!

Wow, Shotacon! The analysis makes perfect sense: the calculated (?) transfer of vulnerability to young people, which at the same time elevates the agency of women! I wonder, was this something that they formalized as a strategy, or is it "only" your analysis? Has this particular angle been covered in some book that you can recommend?
