One thing's for sure: pursuing spiritualism is FAR healthier and more useful than pursuing politics. It at least allows something bigger than tawdry society to get a look in. I've read guys like Rupert Sheldrake and John Michael Greer whose intelligent occult and spiritualist investigations are very impressive. Sheldrake in particular joins serious science to spiritually inspired thinking that is what the 60s should have produced a lot more of. I believe in morphic resonance! The problem I have with the enlightened aliens belief is that it always seems to embody the old human dream of transcending the everyday blood and muck of biology. Boy-lovers might be accepted as beneficent guides upon intergalactic enlightenment, but only because we'll all be wearing svelte silver suits and have no genitals. Pure love and enlightened truth -- FINALLY we can leave our squalid earth-grubbing lives behind! Mother Nature tends to answer such aspirations very rudely. |
