I certainly agree that MAP activism is both hopeless and inherently wrong. But aren't you pushing your gratitude for an outsider position a bit far? Let's say your worst nightmare were realised, and tomorrow MAPs became happily ensconced in the basket of desirables. Having lost your intrinsic outsider status, what would you do? Join the angry minority opposing the new acceptance? What you write seems to suggest so. If I was given the option of pushing a button that would instantly give MAPs acceptance along similar lines to gays and trannies, I would push the button. I'd happily give up the current situation for a very imperfect tolerance. BUT, I would be doing so with a solid sense of my identity as a pederast, and I would then be pursuing strategies to promote the conservative tradition-based pederastic model I ascribe to. My model would win, too. Pederasty has the secret advantage of belonging to the mainstream. Isn't your position allowing the corrupt culture you hate too much power in defining who you are? I feel you need to put some breathing space between sexual "perversion" and a certain intellectual critique of modern culture. You can keep the critique if the perversion becomes accepted. And you may well get a better hearing. I am [not] necessarily looking down my nose at the muzzled minorities who have bought acceptance at a high price and yet somehow still want to think that they are edgy, poor things. Well, no, you should DEFINITELY look down your nose at those dills. |
