It's an agitate and speculate strategy.

Push something absurd and refutable hoping others will overshare/give away other valuable information in rebutting the obvious nonsense.

Don't fall for it.

Every time you divulge something, he scribbles it down in a little notebook and pumps his little pin-dick while exhaling laboriously.
