"We must discredit the media before people will start listening to OUR message." The media is just the formal manifestation of people's close-mindedness and if the media were reduced to just people shouting at each other on social media, the nature of the problem would not change. People choose the stories they want to believe about underage sex just as much as you choose the stories you want to believe about the media. They will not abandon their stories unless you give them one that better suits their predispositions and they are not predisposed to give pedophiles an inch. We'll only change anything if we get them while they're young and that means not just interfering in their adoption of the culture's erotophobia, but every adjacent belief system that supports it like narratives about trauma, victimhood and innocence that go beyond the narrower subject of underage sex. It's not just about reaching new audiences by taking the place of the media, but also about creating new audiences by aiding their development. |
