Also, in response to your skepticism about fundamentalist Christians preferring "trans" to "gay," the accounts of that are numerous and growing.

I immediately heard one such anecdote after reading your comment from Aaron Kimberley, a psychologist and clinician specializing in dysphoria and related issues who had, herself, undergone hormone and ultimately surgical procedures to alleviate her dysphoria many years ago but who is now very critical of these treatments and the movement from which they arose.

In this episode of her podcasts, she relates her own father's reaction to her telling him that she was "trans" and was going to undergo those treatments, to which he responds "Well, that's better than that gay thing!" She confirms that she came from a very conservative, religious background.

I recommend this podcast series, in general, because it provides a really good background on trans issues and the hijacking of it by the most radical elements within that movement. You quickly realize that all is not well within that movement and that there is a great deal of dissension within its ranks.
