Even Jesus, preaching the overturning of all hierarchies, had, within his little all-male communist gang, a favorite disciple named John.

Why was this (apparently) tolerated; why was it pointed out at all? Was it to point out that Christ's profound doctrine of peace and fraternity ultimately overcomes base instincts of jealousy? Or was it because males accept hierarchies as natural and orient themselves with them toward what is peaceful?

Or are these two interpretations really not so different after all? Ortil's stories would suggest the latter...

[What a fascinating life. He too maintained a sort of loose fraternal collection of "apostles" of which he was the unassuming charismatic leader. Another pattern repeated by pederasts!]
