If you keep meeting with people that has the same points of view as you, you will never learn other points of views. It’s good to have friends (or at least meet) people that think differently. Sometimes we are closed in our own minds and we can’t see past our thoughts and the way we see the world. It’s not just people from another culture, it can also happen with people from other generation, from other religion, other political view, etc. For example, I didn’t understand well arab culture until I had an arab friend. He showed me their perspective of the world, or at least, his perspective of the world. It’s quite different from mine but it helped me to understand a bit better some of his culture. If you have always wondered why people make that claim, it shows you have never tried it. I recommend you to try and talk with people from different parts of the world. It’s also fun to see how different people can be just because they were born in a different part of the world. Sometimes you can also see how similar we are in some other aspects. If it wasn’t because of all the people I’ve met, I would be very different and much more close-minded. |
