Its exactly the same thing.

I am making a claim about myself ( "I am a unicorn")

Someone is making a claim about themselves ("I am trans")

How do you know either one is true?

If you dont know, then why do you accept one of them as true, but the other one not?

If you accept one of them because the person said it was true, you then have to accept the other one for the same reason.
