Retroactive Continuity of Boylove Activism

Posted by Enochian on 2017-March-24 13:17:30, Friday

Occasionally, I bump into people online who I used to hang out with on IRC back in the middle to late 90's, on various BL-themed channels.

Almost without exception, they claim not to even know what BL means, or what I am talking about, and run screaming from the channel at the mention of anything even remotely related to boys, for fear even being in the presence of such discussion will cause the government to place them under surveillance.

It is like their BL past never happened.

These people were some the biggest proponents of Boylove on Usenet and IRC back in the day. Now they go on and on about how BoyChat should be shut down, and all perverts should be put into prison.

Now I recognize that the political winds have shifted, and hostility towards certain sexual minorities has increased. I certainly wouldn't sit on IRC on a channel called #nambla today, and expect my freedom of speech and association to be respected.

Nonetheless, I find myself wondering if these people have completely repressed their past to the point where even they don't believe it happened.

Not a sign of good mental health, if you ask me.
