These people might have indeed repressed their past to the point of nonrecognition. But that doesn't have to be the case as showcased by the many many posters who are still posting since the 90s. I am new relatively speaking but from the discussions we have here a lot of the former posters still post here.

You are spot on in recognizing that this is a mental health issue and this makes a stronger argument for the mental health community among pedophiles to ramp up their effort to help those who have mentally suffered because of the negative pressure from society. I implore those who have suffered because of this to seek the available mental health services to improve their lives.
