Actually, Yarmouth is an atrocious dump, but I assume that rising sea levels will take care of it and might even become quite picturesque when it's inundated by the sea, like Dunwich or Tewkesbury about two winters from now. To be honest, I am quite fond of Norfolk. It has some very fine late-medieval churches, many of which are in a sad state of disrepair. Personally I think the government should let museums fend for themselves (God knows the BM has sold its soul to satan many times over) and pay for the upkeep of historic churches and cathedrals instead. Also, if you need anything to make you love Norfolk, watch The Go-Between (1971), which is in my view almost the perfect (repressed) boylove film of almost the perfect (highly-repressed) boylove novel. |
