No thermal runaway?

Batteries are chemically active, with sheets of stuff that reacts with each other rolled tightly. And with conductors all over the place. In car crashes, those will create shortcuts. It is similar to a bomb. If they can make it such that the battery does not get mechanically damaged in most car accidents, then it would work.

Chinese cars... not sure if that is a good thing. Without parts from China, a damaged car might become a total loss.
