... and your longer essay is one of the best things I've read in a long time. Outstanding.

[[ To nit-pick:

You write
I say "may be" because certain aspects of Marxist analysis are indispensable to understanding our plight. (e.g., the corrosive effects of capitalism on all forms of human relations not governed by the cash nexus -- although Marx didn't mention it, that would include of course pederastic relations).
I would add only that Marx is hardly the only critical analyst of capitalism in the wake of the industrial evolution. Santayana, Ruskin, Pope Leo XIII's rerum novarum, the distributism of Chesterton and Belloc – all of these took aim at capitalism's moral failings and corrosive effects, in conjunction with a realist materialism but without ever being reduced to the latter and without needing to "reference" Marx at all (sometimes obviously and deliberately ignoring him!),

It's hard to call Marx anything other than indispensable, but more accurately he is inescapable, and in my opinion unnecessarily so. We would have been far better off without him in much the same way as the Reformation, as necessary as something "like it" certainly was, would have been better off under the auspices of Erasmus' critical wisdom than under those of Luther. ]]
