It is difficult to believe that anyone could be so profoundly ignorant as to claim that "Imans in Mosque establish their own Sharia laws". Imams in mosques do not establish their own Sharia laws; rather, they interpret and apply existing Islamic law based on the Quran, Hadith, and established jurisprudential principles. Furthermore, in Britain Sharia councils have no legal jurisdiction and their rulings are based on voluntary acceptance by the parties involved, which is a matter of conscience under ordinary religious freedoms. Even then, they are bound by the common law and cannot make a ruling in contradiction to that law. Their sphere is largely in the area of marriage and divorce, and they arose in the 1980s to assist women to obtain a divorce when the husbands would not cooperate. There are also Jewish religious councils (Beth din) as well, which have a similarly circumscribed role. To be clear: the only law in Britain is statute law, and claims by Trump and others that Britain, or London, has replaced its common law with Sharia law, or is about to do so, are false.
