In Islam, dissimulation to infidels (taqiyya, prudence or wariness) is permitted for purposes of self-preservation, yes. Unlike Christians, muslims are not required to die nobly rather than be forced to make verbal recantations of their faith. Sounds a rather sensible ruling to me.
