I shall only say one thing, and then ignore your sealioning. The current unrest in Spain followed the death of 87 year old Maricarmen Abascal from her apartment of 70 years. The investment firm who bought the property in 2018 cited a legal loophole allowing it to raise her rent from €500 to €2,650. It subsequently lowered the new rent to €1,650 but Maricarmen was still unable to pay it with her monthly pension of €1,350. The firm's ruthless response was to have her evicted. Maricarmen, already in fragile health, was carried out on a stretcher to a hospital where she died. This led to tens of thousands taking to the streets in anger over the capitalist system in which the most ruthless and greedy get to accummulate the most resources and wield the most economic power, and in which profit is put before people and planet. It is a system that is consuming the world, and it must be stopped. ![]() |
