The parents' attitudes towards you are what ALL Western/anglo-centricked parents think. They don't know that they don't know but if they were to read Paul Goodman ("Growing Up Absurd") or John Holt ("Escape From Childhoood") or R.D.Laing's "The Politics of Experience", you would BEGIN TO UNDERSTAND the project of the typical, Nuclear Family.

But i bet you'd especially be moved by Matt Groening's "Childhoood Is Hell"! Where he spells it out more directly!!

Thus, when your fa did shitty things your way it wasn't only about him. It was also about the kind of "good education" he got, as well as the Frame of References he Trusted (i.e. remember Dr.Spock? Pop psychology entranced a lot of parents back in the '70s and likely still does; tho it may be pop podcasts, eh?).

You have every right to be peeved about all this shit!! Why you seem to be flailing around is the only thing i wonder about (have you truly not found a way for balance?).

Flailing out of frustration for our Bigger Picture and then some?

Then, to avoid going too off-balance, how much can one "figure out" about "the puzzle"?? Do you DARE?!?
