I wonder if America's declining status in the world has anything to do with this? The US has a history of brow-beating other countries with their pedo-hysteria. And Brazil is looking to move away from US influence. Maybe Alexandre de Moraes saw this case and thought it'd be a nice spit in the eye to the freaks up north. Because they wouldn't like it. Or, more optimistically, the belief that everyone has to tow the American line is starting to fade away. Pretty cool ruling from the review panel: "There are peculiar situations. It is not up to the legislator to simply close their eyes to reality, to concrete situations. We have to apply the law and precedent according to the reality that is presented," he stated. Such basic common-sense seems almost surreal. Certainly shows up how vicious and demented we English-speaking countries are. |
