forces that permeate the Universe, and can be harnessed/tapped into by the practitioner.

Yes, this is the only "predictive" quality--forewarned is forearmed--that seemed worth much.

That is not to say that the planets are merely psychological archetypes, as some modernists like to claim. They exist as forces within and beyond the psyche, much as an individual is compelled by gravity, but gravity is not merely an individual's perception of it.

That's an excellent description of the vibe I got during a fairly brief look into it, mainly via the books of Robert Hand and a few others. But once you start studying your own birth chart, and the birth charts of those close to you, it quickly becomes apparent there's something in it. Even if it IS just projection, which I don't believe it is, it's the most sophisticated and useful form of ink-blot interpretation going.

It also has the quality of linking one to Nature, something we badly need today. Astrology had a brief renaissance in the 60s, but it's a shame it wasn't built on, taken seriously. It's exactly the sort of pagan practice that could have helped us emerge from our Christian phase -- instead, we keep reinventing the waspy puritanical wheel in increasingly demented ways.

Damn, I wish we had stuck with the classical Septenary. That's heaps to be getting on with. Today it's not just the extra planets but all the other odd little nodes thrown in. It gets so you can read any damn thing you like.
