You aren't wrong to notice that monkey knew quite well that the word you was part of a quote. The quote was bold italics introduced with the blue talked hyperlink. Notice how he lied in his response to you, claiming not to realize the obvious quote before going on to say "I didn't say anything about prescriptivism," which is an excellent example of his #NeverSaidThat troll, because of course he never said that. No one said he said that. His prescriptivism was described, yes, but by shifting the focus to a question of did he or did he not "say anything about perscriptivism" (which he didn't) he twists the conversation away from a discussion about how he approaches language in a perscriptivist manner into a debate over which exact words he used to say something about something he didn't say anything about, and when the other person can't prove that monkey didn't say what he didn't say (and never was accused of saying) monkey can claim victory over a debate in which he was the sole contestant. This is why monkey is referred to as a tarpit. He makes no attempt to clear anything up or to see where the other person is coming from. His sole intention is to muddy the waters and frustrate anyone who he talks to. That's his tasty raisin d'etre for coming to BC every day. He just loves trolling people and then telling them that he's not convinced by their descriptions of his trolling. ![]() |
