I agree with much of your analysis, kit. But my involvement with Virped is as a support group. I have never perceived it as a self-advocacy organisation, although others doubtless have and do. I'd rather leave that stuff to Fragment, BLue Ribbon and the MAP Union project. We can perceive life as unfair for those of us who admit to our own attractions (regardless of our level of openness about it to others). The trouble is, most paedo/hebephiles don't admit it to anyone, even themselves. The likes of nitro (peace be upon him) spent 50 years in denial and, although his enlightenment pre-dated Virped by many years (I know, I was the wizkid technical administrator on the forum he first came to) it was a life-changing experience for him, and many others. For others, it is life-saving. I've long lost count of the people who've come to the Virped forum believing they hype that they are sick monsters, worried that they will inevitably rape a kid some day, and just wanting to end it all. Virped has saved lives (as I'm sure has Boychat, of course) and that alone makes it a worthwhile project in my eyes. The trouble with Free Spirits is that paedophiles who think that peadophiles are sick ducks who abuse children won't come to a forum like this. It ain't rocket science. Then there are many who may well be at risk of committing acts with children that could not be considered consensual regardless of one's contact views. They are often the ones who are in partial denial of their sexuality; the ones who wake up one morning realising that they made a "terrible mistake" that they just don't understand. I have no doubt that Virped has also prevented child abuse (and I don't by that mean gentle intimacy or rape on a statutory level alone). So I would respectfully (and you know I love and respect you and have done for years) ask you to consider laying off the demolition job just a shade, huh? ![]() |
