Thanks for the recommendation. I note that there is a DVD with English subtitles. I shall investigate further. We all know the divine Ozu, as well as Children in the Wind, and The Naked Island, and Village of Dreams, etc, but overall my acquaintance with Japanese cinema (and east Asian cinema in general) is unfortunately very deficient. It is a lacuna I hope to do something to fill.
