If you like boys, stay out of mainland China!

A BoyLover once asked me if I would recommend China as a good place for BoyLovers to practice their, shall we say, "predilections" given that homosexuality was not illegal there, though Chinese are highly homophobic. So much so that they won't/don't even discuss it. It wasn't that long ago that Chinese claimed that homosexuality did not even exist in their country, and that it was a decadent Western phenomenon.

So, to his question I said, "No". The mainland Chinese government is highly unpredictable, and you could get in trouble too easily.

Taiwanese, on the other hand, are also homophobic, but they tend to respect the "live and let live" ethic, and as long as one doesn't "frighten the horses in the street" (you don't make a public scene), you'll be left alone. But that can change, too (or may have changed already, my info is dated) due to the influence of the Western moral imperialists who, supported by the U.S. government, rail against (so-called) "child sexual abuse," especially committed by foreigners traveling abroad.

Can anyone update the information I've given here?

Such a shame, too, for the "rice queens" among us...

The problem with having sex with Chinese boys is that,
an hour later, you're horny again...
