Why are people so afraid of death?

Death is nothing. At the very least, nothing new. You start dying the instant your life begins. We are mortals from our very first heartbeat, right? Death is a continuous process. What we usually call death is just the closure of this process, and does it matter when it happens? Well, to others maybe, but not to you. You only live in the present moment, and will die in a present moment. Unless you have a fetish for numbers maybe, why would it matter what's the exact time and date you die? And for all you know, dying from a bullet may be a less painful death than what would have naturally occurred to you otherwise. Or do you envy all those paralyzed elders who agonize for months before they eventually have their last breath? Now, you may think you have some mission to accomplish on Earth, or at least people who care for you that you don't want to suffer from your loss, and that may be enough reason to try and avoid death in most circumstances. But in my opinion, it would never be a sufficient reason to kill a kid, no matter how evil he may be. So, sure, I would not fire at him (nor stab him, as I usually carry a knife, never a gun. I'm not American^^). Anyway, the sociopath kid script is overrated I believe, even though Western culture loves it for some reason (maybe to forget that we are guilty of producing a culture fostering and promoting sociopaths more than any other one). This kind of scenario is completely unlikely to ever happen. Even sociopaths enjoy being loved, you know, although they can't reciprocate the way most people would. But all kids crave for love. He may recognize that your love is more valuable to him than your death, especially if you don't seem to be afraid of it. And if you get a chance, why not propose him a more fun way to kill you, like death by snu-snu? After all, even for a kid, killing one man after another the same way must be boring after all. If one of us has to die, well, at least let's bring some more fun to it.
