A can identify with a great deal of this, particularly:

"I need other people less than ever and care about what they think even less ... I'm more accepting of a nearly hermitic and increasingly isolated life ... I can now live in my own head to the exclusion of others to a very great extent."

I've always been rather like that! I am fortunate enough to have a companion, but together we are quite self-sufficient. Is the difference, I wonder, between those who can get something out of life in the current epoch and those who find it more difficult to be explained as arising simply from the difference between introversion and extraversion?

I too find that I no longer care what anyone thinks - I find this a great liberation, and one of the principal advantages of no longer being young.

"I'm curious about the future, almost morbidly so, and I always want to know "What happens next?" even if it turns out to be a disaster."

So am I! The world is quite absorbingly fascinating; I can't understand why anyone would want to leave it.
