I definitely don't think most members of VirPed and myself would have a lot in common beyond a shared orientation. But I try not to look a gift horse in the mouth. The concerning thing is that it feels like the recent leadership is even more siloed and insular than Nick and Ethan (who both were active members of regular BL/GL boards). Adherents of the "child protection" ideology run the site, not merely pedos that keep it in their pants. I think one big "problem" with the younger generation is that they haven't experienced the pain of losing loved and trusted friends to prison in a way that the NAMBLA generation did. It makes it much easier for them to continue to play the "them and us" game. Except they found a way, by being the "house pedo", to put themselves onto the "good" team against the "evil pro-c monsters". But, as they are well aware, society doesn't see them as any different to us. But to them, society is wrong about them; but it isn't wrong about us. I have very complicated feelings about their role in the community. But on balance, I think we'd be in a worse place if we hadn't had them. It's also time for a different narrative to become dominant, though. |
