People say this as if it'll help you every time. But a lot of cases are prosecuted based, primarily, on digital evidence. Or multiple testimonies from multiple victims. The police, of course, would still like a conviction based on confession. But a plea deal or equivalent CAN improve your situation. I think the more accurate statement should be: "Never talk to the police until your lawyer says you should, limiting it to only what he says to tell them. Even then be careful to ensure that your lawyer really has your best interests in mind." |
