It's not a real-world "thing" as such, but should be read as a positive for normalization of minor-adult relationships over the medium to longer term.

The choice of congenial perpetrators (women) is a zero-risk strategy for the media, and invites the public to discourse in ways counter to the prevailing narrative. Then if we at least condone female teacher relationships as an ethical "exception to the rule", the topic of unequal treatment (of the genders) automatically comes into play. Again, this has zero risk for the media, as it is not them who is doing the condoning.

This is a good development for those who were pissed about Virped getting slots in the liberal media ten years ago.

What would be the smart thing to do? Don't buy the hype, but build a profile of the media organizations pushing these stories above and beyond the usual male perp ballast.
