Yes, it's definitely asking a lot of teachers (and maybe boys too) to exercise continence. Chastity, even! (An unfashionable virtue if ever there was one.)

I'm certainly not 'anti-contact.' (I'm not under the impression that SR is either). I am no "virtuous" paedophile, though I do believe in certain virtues, even where sex is concerned.

But teaching is sacred. The vocation of the teacher is something sacrosanct. (Not where I live, obviously, but in the imagined boylove paradise in my head, where teachers are philosopher-princes and not harrassed babysitters.)

Of course boys fall in love with their teachers - in exactly the same way that patients fall in love with their psychoanalyst (or the penitent with their priest). This is normal and it shows that things are working as they should.

But it's wrong for a teacher to take advantage of the pedagogical relationship. Not go-to-prison-for-twenty-years wrong, but definitely a betrayal of a sacred trust. Maybe never-darken-the-doors-of-my-school-again wrong.

But again, I'm imagining a world where the status of schoolteachers is quite different from what it is where I live: where education is the highest human vocation rather than a desperate last resort of the unemployed humanities graduate.
