My opinion is that the age of consent does not make sense even at face-value. To make love or consensual sex based on age contraband has the implication of it being possible - why else criminalize it if it isn't done anyway - and ergo, unreasonable to criminalize. It is very blatantly not a protection of children, but an excuse to incarcerate people.

If there is coercion, it is prosecuted as rape. We do not need the age of consent to prosecute sexual assault done unto young people, and in fact, it seems very apparent to me that the age of consent only diverts efforts into entrapment schemes and sting operations of innocent people, rather than any actual abusers.

To be a bit more straightforward, I would also add that I do not see the Age of Consent as more than another way for the State, with its police lapdogs and prisons, to further control the lives of its citizens. This law gives people absurd justifications for supporting an oppressive policing system. "What of the pedophiles! They'll run amok!"

What people bizarrely seem to forget when they discuss the AoC is the stakes. This is not a hypothetical moral quandary or a question of whether or not this or that person can consent. This is a question of policing, prosecution, of imprisonment. If I were to love a child and be so unlucky as to have this lead to jail time - then I will be treated as another faceless martyr to throw into disarray. This is tragic, oppressive, and an abhorrent fact which in the future I think many people will find themselves quite ashamed for having permitted. They will call the treatment of youth-adult love as abhorrent an absolute stain on their nation's history - and they will be correct.

Furthermore, I do not even believe in having a simply low Age of Consent. For one, a lot of the proposals for a lower age of consent would still prosecute innocent child-lovers (while leaving others untouched entirely.) A lot of people try to base it around puberty - but why? Puberty brings its changes, but does not having undergone them make a certain type of relationship inherently more abusive or distasteful? I don't believe so.

I think there can be no compromising in this respect - to permit that a law is even allowed to dictate personal harmless joys is too much. I say the State, the pigs and the courts have no place in consensual affairs. Not a single inkling of space.
