Can you give me a specific personal example (without giving any identifying detail) where having a friend from another culture enriched you? Ideally, something that you think you wouldnt have learned or gained from a person of the same culture as you.

Besides experiences during my long travels I learn a lot from refugees I work with. They are often eye openers for me. It is not only what I learn from their way of thinking, but also from what they tell me how they see and feel about the culture I grew up in.

I guess and hope you come to this board to listen to what other people experience, think and feel. That is sometimes quite different from what you have experienced and learned in your life. Certain things you learn from them, other things you doubt or reject. It is a dialectic process.

You ask for an example. Just get an international cookbook and I hope you will understand what I mean. Not all will fit you but it can certainly enrich your taste.
