..if sex-segregation might just be all about keeping sexual and other strong distracting temptations at bay, rather than any girls or women or boys etc as such. No temptation = no problem, for the old status quo. I would say much of European civilisation has been obsessed with excluding temptations that would distract from other goals considered more important by the elites of the day.. some religion, some warfare, some technology and city-building, other military-industrial developments.. many of which would not happen without setting aside the temptations that could lead people to become less industrious.
