Here is the definition of MAP from the study: "Minor attracted people (MAPs) experience sexual and romantic attractions towards children." My question is: what is a child? Do you mean it in the arbitrary legal sense (under AoC or AoM) or the biological sense (prepubescent)? 'Minor' would seem to imply that it is meant in the arbitrary legal sense. If this is the case, the definition would be more complete if it were: "Minor attracted people (MAPs) experience sexual and romantic attractions towards those legally defined as children." I am not a fan of the term 'MAP' because 'minor' is an arbitrary legal category, not a biological one. Assuming 'minor' means 'below age of majority,' then I could be minor attracted today but not tomorrow, if the law was to change. Also, it's often not clear from these studies whether 'minor' means 'below age of majority' or 'below age of consent.' They aren't always the same. Clearly, in this context, the latter definition is more relevant because AoC laws address sex acts specifically. |
