What causes the need to ask the question, or that it's a legitimate question to ask in the 1st place...

The ownership of sexuality, and the dependence of the industry of experts to keep face as very "worthy" of their high paying professional salaries; they keep it such a diabolical topic, and in turn such a pressing concern.

The proof is, we'd be asking ourselves all kinds of choice questions... favorite colors, why? favorite fruit, why? favorite sleeping position, why? and favorite showering temperature, why? etc...

I watch the Corporate main stream media like CNN from time to time for a lark... they love to tout, and make fun of all the "conspiracies" that are "out there"... but their investigative journalism is non existent, they "buy" it all... kind of the same principal here,

If you're going to truly be interested in the brain, it's patterns, how it decides it's likes, and dislikes... etc... be fair, be scientific, be holistic and not enslaved by the ritualistic taboos, and voodoos that enrich the wizards and the strange concoctions they dream up.

What causes BL? A human brain, a pulse, and a natural human physiological desire to be close to beauty.
