In the Old Testament, if a man raped a girl he could come to an agreement with the father to pay the brideprice and take the girl as his wife. However, what is unstated is that this is really an escape clause for consensual but prohibited relationships between a man and an unmarried girl. They've been caught fooling around, but there was really no harm done so they just make it official. If the man cannot make a deal with the father, he is to be executed. If I found you had raped my daughter, guess what would happen to you? |
