It CAN be done, and it CAN be helpful. And you are right to point out that it's HIS choice to make.

Advise is a dangerous thing to offer a lot of the time, and sometimes we try to take some of the danger out of it by giving advise that's safer.

I have "been there and done that" myself before going to prison and nothing bad happened to me out of it either.

One thing for sure though. Should he in fact decide to proceed with saying something... He's now got a LOT of good advise to draw from.
