Hi,
Apart from your age, your circumstances sound quite similiar to mine, however my experience may be only of limited use to you because of the country where I live. One thing I would say is don't rush into a plea-bargain unless you are absolutely connfident of the outcome - even solicitors can get it wrong sometimes!
I can say that I survived the experience, albeit with some affects on my life (job, friends, interests). If you think my experience would be relevant to you please reply to this post and I'll try to figure out a way of making contact through a throw-away email address
