You can get an EBT card immediately if you have negative cash flow for the month, but you have to provide ID, Proof of Citizenship, Lease, Rent Receipt, all your utility bills, bank statements, Proof of Income, and Proof of Resources, as well as the filled out application form. If the financial worker decides to be difficult, and demands things you can't easily provide, it can drag on for months, with you getting Jack Squat in benefits. Most people who are new to poverty don't know where things like free meals and food banks are located, and after you haven't eaten for a few days, you're probably too weak to go on a field trip and stand in line anyway. Bear in mind this is the year of the collapsing tax base for cities and states. My own city's welfare office has been largely emptied by layoffs, with floors of empty cubicles now being used for storage. |
