It is hugely historically significant. If you're not interested in what goes on beyond the borders of the U.S., then fine; I was speaking to those who have a reason to be interested. This forum is the place to discuss political developments, and there is no reason why it should be monopolised by Yanks.

Since you have indicated that you have no interest in politics outside the U.S. you need not read the rest of this post.

I don't expect the Greens to get into power except possibly as part of a coalition government in a future parliament under PR. (And I expect the next general election to be the very last fought under first-past-the-post.)

The Greens exercise influence primarily by taking votes from Labour's left; just as Reform have caused the Tories to adopt more right wing positions by taking votes from the Tory right, and Restore pull Reform further to the right by taking votes from their right flank.

The reason why we have Andy Burnham as PM right now rather than Keir Starmer is wholly because of the Greens. Starmer was buried by the local council results, in which Labour lost nearly four times more votes to the Greens than it did to Reform (3.7 times more to the Greens, to be strictly accurate). So the fortunes of the Greens in Britain are hugely significant to the political direction of the country; that is the reality of multi-party politics (which you in the US are unfamiliar with, but which Britain is having to adapt to rather quickly).

In other countries, notably Germany, Greens have become very cosy and establishment the closer they've got to power. This anti-Zionist motion is important as giving the party an ideological ballast to prevent that drift, and to make them very distinct from Andy Burnham's Labour.

It has been suggested that the timing is a little unfortunate given the upcoming byelection, but who knows what ultimate effect it will have? I imagine that those who are turned off by this motion will have already been turned off by Zack identifying as an anti-Zionist at the recent hustings. You had all the (non-Jewish) candidates, one by one, declaring their undying commitment to Israel and to Zionism, and then Zack, the only Jew on the panel, declaring his opposition to Zionism. Anyone who thinks that anti-Zionism is antisemitism was not going to vote for Zack anyway after that event.
