Today it was my honour to read aloud in the Mass part of Paul's letter to the Romans. Perhaps nobody in history has had more to say about love than St Paul. And one of the verses I read runs as follows:

"Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good."

So - the Apostle suggests - the love of good inherently entails hatred of evil. But hatred is secondary, it follows logically from love. It is, as it were, the shadow-side of love.

I have realised that in the above post I suggested that all hatreds spring from disordered or delusional loves, but this is wrong. Hatred can be righteous, just as love may be.
