I have tremendous respect for both you and Kit, and both of you are advising skepticism about the claims that Maduro stole in 2004 election. But I did pay some attention to the coverage at the time, and it seemed to me the opposition had a strong case. Also, this election caused Maduro to lose the support of Lula in Brazil, Petro in Columbia, AMLO in Mexico, and Boric in Chile -- not exactly a roster of US sycophants. Releasing precinct level vote counts seems like a reasonable standard for a claim of electoral victory. Maduro's refusal to do that is evidence of... something. But Trump has declined to support Machado's claim to the presidency, or even González's claim, so I strongly suspect there is a deal with Delcy. In that case, a refusal to call an election could suggest, not a Chavista conspiracy against democracy, but conspiracy between Delcy and Trump. Or rather, both at once, I guess. hugzu ;-p ![]() |
